Principals’ Recommended Admission (PRA) Rules 2024/2025 1. Introduction As the primary comprehensive university in the region, the University of Macau (UM) is committed to fostering local high quality and well-round talents as our mission. To this end, the “Principals’ Recommended Admission Scheme” is established to allow local secondary school principals to recommend outstanding local students for direct admission. Under the scope of general Principals’ Recommended Scheme, two sub-schemes namely the “Chinese and Portuguese Bilingual Talent Nurturing Scheme” and “Outstanding StudentAthletes Admission Scheme” are also devised so as to cultivate outstanding local Chinese and Portuguese talents for Macao S.A.R. as well as to encourage local student-athletes to pursue higher academic qualifications and to continue to make breakthrough in their sports achievement. 2. Recommended Qualification Scheme Application Qualification “Principals’ 1. Excellent academic performance and good conduct; 2. Must hold Macao SAR Resident I.D. card and currently studying in Form 6 or equivalent Recommended Admission Scheme” of Macao secondary school; 3. Ranked among top 10% in terms of academic performance amongst all Form 5 (or equivalent) students (among total students from arts, commerce, science and other streams). 4. Applicants who may not meet criteria of above point 3 but possess any of the following outstanding academic performance, talents or achievements may also be recommended: Academic awards/ qualifications achieved (e.g. public academic competitions or public exams); Non-academic awards/ qualifications achieved (e.g. talents of the musicianship or sports area). “Chinese and 1. Ranked among the top 30% in terms of academic performance amongst all Form 5 (or equivalent) students (including all students in arts, commerce, science and other streams); 4. Attained the proficiency of CIPLE Level A2 (Certificado Inicial de Português Língua Estrangeira Niv́ el A2) or equivalent (or such proficiency proof can be declared by the school); 5. Applicants, who may not fulfil the condition of above point 3 but have represented Macao S.A.R. with good sports performance, can also apply by submitting the recommendation letter from sports association together with the recommendation by the school principal. 3. Application Procedures and Documents 3.1 Recommended applicants must submit an on-line application for Principals’ Recommended Admission together with the following required documents within the application period (Please refer to the “User Manual of Online Application System for Principals’ Recommended Admission 2024/2025”): Documents(in A4 size except photo) Valid Macao I.D. card One passport size color photo Remarks Both sides on one paper 3.5cm X 4.5cm white background is preferred Official transcript of academic records for the recent two years of secondary education Academic records for Form 4 to Form 5 Applicants being recommended with qualification of specific talents or outstanding achievements: Related certificates or proof for supplementary information of special talents, awards or community service Qualification or award attained only during secondary school study is accepted. Photo of medal/trophy cannot serve as proof of award, which should be provided in the form of a testimonial issued by related authority/association or secondary school. Applicable to applicants for “Chinese and Portuguese Bilingual Talent Nurturing Scheme” only: Related certificates or proof for proficiency of CIPLE Level A2 (Certificado Inicial de Português Língua Estrangeira Niv́ el A2) or equivalent Applicable to applications for “Outstanding StudentAthletes Admission Scheme” only: Related certificates or proof of representing Macao S.A.R. to participate in international/regional sports competition within the last two years, or a written recommendation from sports association. Interview will be conducted for qualified applicants. Successful Applicants 4.1 Admission and Scholarship 4.1.1 For admission selection of “Principals’ Recommended Admission Scheme” and “Chinese and Portuguese Bilingual Talent Nurturing Scheme”: 4.1.1.1 The admission assessment is made by a holistic approach including factors of students’ school performance, ranking, academic and non-academic talents, community service and interview, etc., 4.1.1.2 Successful students admitted to our bachelor programme 2024/2025 intake may be granted one of the following scholarships: 4.1.1.3 University of Macau Grand Lotus Scholarship; University of Macau Golden Lotus Scholarship; University of Macau Silver Lotus Scholarship; University of Macau First Year Scholarship. For students to be admitted through “Outstanding Student-Athletes Admission Scheme”, admission assessment will base on applicants’ sports achievements, faculty interview and sports skill test performance (if applicable). If he/she is found to be admitted through other channels, the University reserves the rights to cancel his/her admission qualifications. 4.4 All students admitted through the Principals’ Recommended Admission Scheme will follow the Admission Rules Governing Bachelor’s Degree Programmes. Please visit the website at https://reg.um.edu.mo/admissions/ for details. 4.5 Obligation 4.5.1 Upon admission, scholarship recipients of “Principals’ Recommended Admission Scheme” and “Chinese and Portuguese Bilingual Talent Nurturing Scheme” are obliged to participate and assist in any university activities which aim to cultivate students’ sense of community service and their practical competence during the undergraduate study. 4.5.2 Upon admission, scholarship recipients of “Outstanding Student-Athletes Admission Scheme” are obliged to participate and assist in any university sports activities and represent UM to participate in any sports competitions during the undergraduate study. 5. Please visit the website at https://reg.um.edu.mo/admissionpolicy for details. 7. Disqualification Applicants must guarantee that the information given in the application form is TRUE. The University of Macau reserves the rights to terminate an application, admission, study and scholarship at any time if: - any information given in his/her application form is found later to be untrue and/or incorrect; - an applicant had made untruthful declarations; - an applicant offered with admission is found to have violated any of the regulations of the University of Macau or misconduct behavior. Should such cases occur, the applicant any fees paid will not be refunded and all documents submitted will not be returned, the applicant shall bear the administrative, civil and criminal responsibilities under the law. Target students For students admitted with “University of Macau Lotus Scholarship” 2024/2025. 2. Qualifications To enjoy the continuation of scholarship within the normal study period, students must: 2.1 complete at least 24 credits or the number of credits required by the designated study plan of the academic year at the University; 2.2 achieve the Residential College requirements (Please refer to website of Residential College at https://rc.um.edu.mo/) 2.3 achieve the following academic year’s performance (yearly GPA): For Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Faculty of Business Administration, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Social Scholarship Type 3. For Faculty of Law Sciences and Faculty of Science and Technology Grade Point Average (The highest letter grade is A, GPA=4.00) % of Tuition Exempted University of Macau Grand Lotus Scholarship/ University of Macau Golden Lotus Scholarship GPA: 3.30-4.00 100% 14 100% University of Macau Silver Lotus Scholarship GPA: 3.30-4.00 50% 14 50% 20-Point % of Tuition System Exempted Scholarship period The scholarship period is based on the normal study period of the registered major. 4. Termination of scholarship The University reserves the rights to terminate the scholarship (inclusive of tuition fee waiver, Residential College accommodation fee waiver and related eligibility) if a student: 4.1 cannot achieve the academic year’s performance mentioned above; 4.2 cannot complete his/her study within the normal period of study; 4.3 cannot achieve the Residential College requirements. RL/EV/ac Dated on 28/06/2023 7 The University of Macau reserves the rights to terminate the study and scholarship at any time if the student is found to have any misconduct behavior who shall bear the administrative, civil and criminal responsibilities under the law, any fees paid will not be refunded, have to return the scholarship and no scholarship will be granted during the study. 5.
